In the spring of 2023, I had the opportunity to attend a class by Gerhard Friedrich, a former Senior Design Manager at BMW, where he taught us the world of Tape Rendering. This technique is frequently employed in the design process of cars but can be useful for quickly illustrating any complex product.

We began with a Lexus template to sketch out the rough shape and then proceeded to further refine the outlines.

Throughout the design process, we continuously modified details and incorporated our unique design elements into the car.

It was interesting to observe the designs that the other groups developed. Despite starting with the same template, each group’s unique design language became evident in their tape renders.
